SC Paul Muite has expressed his concern after the President of Kenya, His Excellency, William Ruto President Ruto signed into law the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime (Amendment) Bill 2024, which says that if you post something that “offends” someone, you could be fined KSh 20 million or jailed for 10 years.
Sources have confirmed that this was one of the many Bills signed by the President, a move that caught the attention of several Kenyans who took to social media platforms to speak on this.
Taking to X formerly Twitter to speak on this, Kenyan blogger, Cyprian Nyakundi expressed his concern stating that this is what the President was doing as youths suffer from unemployment.
"Many Kenyan youths are jobless and hopeless, yet Ruto is busy signing useless laws meant to silence them instead of fixing the economy.
President Ruto’s hatred for Kenyan youth and online users will never end. He is obsessed with control and fear. If he was fighting corruption with the same energy he uses to fight free speech, Kenya would be far.
We don't really know what he is looking for from Kenyans on social media but he will sure get it!"
SC Paul Muite who took to X formerly Twitter to speak on said that the President knew Raila was dead.
SC Paul Muite :" At the time the President was assenting to these draconian Bills,he was aware that the former Prime Minister had left us.What was the hurry for in assenting ? As a measure of respect, the assenting could have waited a week or so.These laws especially Cyber Crimes must be rejected."
