Famous Mugithi Singer Hospitalised in Serious Condition after Accident, Fans Worried

Popular Gengetone artist Shalkido, a former member of the Sailors group, has been hospitalised after being involved in an accident, just weeks after Kenyans helped him get back on his feet.

According to updates seen by Nairobi Newsroom, the musician had been working hard to rebuild his life after facing several personal struggles.

His story recently went viral when he revealed that he had been living in a single room with nothing but a mattress and struggling to provide for his young family.

Many Kenyans came together to support him, including comedian Eric Omondi, who bought him a motorcycle, and radio host Oga Obinna, who went further to rent and furnish a bedsitter for him.

Obinna had also been mentoring the young artist and even helped him secure a brand ambassador deal.

However, the joy was short-lived. On Sunday, October 5, Obinna shocked fans after announcing on social media that Shalkido had been admitted to hospital in critical condition. 

He revealed that the musician had been involved in an accident earlier that morning. “Woii Shalkido yawa. Critical in hospital,” Obinna posted, asking Kenyans to keep him in their prayers.

Just a few days before the incident, Shalkido had shared a short video from a hospital bed, thanking fans for their support and praying for better health. 

He appeared weak but hopeful, saying he was recovering from a minor illness after performing in Lamu.

Fans across social media have since flooded his pages with get-well messages. One user wrote, “Quick recovery bro, you are destined for greatness.” 

Another commented, “No premature death in Jesus’ name. You will rise again.”

The accident comes barely hours after Shalkido and Obinna performed together at a club event in Thika. It is not yet clear whether the accident involved the motorcycle he received as a gift.
